Clarke, Joseph Clayton. (Kyd) Joseph Clayton Clarke (1867-1937), He was a designer of cigarette cards, postcards and Fore-edge painter principally specialising in Dickens Characters from 1912. He worked for 'Punch' for only one day and as a free lance artist until 1900. Clarke's cartoon caricatures are full of humour and personality. He captures the character's expressions and 'way of life' expertly. Green cloth boards and spine, elaborate gilt portrait of Dickens and his book characters.
