Gisevius, Hans Bernd, Translated from the German By Richard and Clara Winston. To The Bitter End Boston, Houghton Mifflin, 1947, First American Edition ed, Hard Cover, Condition: Very Good, Jacket: Good Plus, Hans Bernd Gisevius one of the leaders of the German anti-Nazi underground traces the macabre pattern of scandal, blackman, betrayal, intrigue, paradox and tragedy by which the Nazis took and held power. Giesevius moved from one government post to another, working from with. A chief among anti-Nazi Germans, privy to al plans of Nazi management throughout the war, studies the power that neary corrupted the world. Most of the men involved were assassinated, Gisevius was one of the few survivors. He began the book as early as 1938. Grey cloth boards and spine. DJ not price clipped, grey, black lettering, upper edge and spine end rubbed, closed tear near spine edge. Brightly colored illustrations, one moving part has tape stains to both sides, illustration fine, part working. In spiral binding, yellow illustrated cardboard with peek through window, mild creasing to upper edge, lower corner, creased with short closed tear. Mild soil to boards. Illustrated throughout by A.B. Frost, J.M. Sone & Frank Verbeck, 18 full page including frontispiece. Joel Chandler Harris gathered the dialect tales he had heard in his childhood told by slaves in a narrative context which details the age-old wisdom by which the enslaved secretly outwit their masters. Through his work with the Uncle Remus tales, he would introduce Americans to the basic patterns and rhythms of southern African-American speech. Brown buckram, illustrated panel.
