The highlights in very good condition as follows: many steel engravings of 19th century scenes such as boating & riding, children, portraits, etc. One hand colored fashion fold-out, "March 1866," Kimmell & Forster, N.Y; various illustrations of lettering of pocket handkerchiefs; designs for crochet, knitting, embroidery; many black and white fashions, such as the Nina & Gilda Paletot, Robe Dress, Evening Dress, jackets; childrens wear (promenade suits); advertisements; many illustrations of bonnets, hats, hoods & women's head dressings; piano sheet music, composed specifically for Godey's; accessories-notions, misc.: such as braided shoe-bag, leaf shaped needle book (blue ink), ornamented parasols, pin cushions, garden mitten, turtle paper weight, Duchess toilet table, & other 19th century items. Many stories, articles and poetry. The defects, page 489 loose, chipped to edges; first 24 pages missing, whole pages up to 530, 531 to 533 are creased and torn, final pages missing. Writing to front & rear pastedowns, f.e.p missing. Child's scribble to blank verso of an illustration, titled "The last Bouquet" which has pencil tracing. Few pages wrinkled or have edge chips. The author's niece started the Oscar stories because she wanted to hear about the "heals" she saw in the pool park in Providence. Oscar owes his life to a little girl who couldn't say her "s's!"
