Burton, Robert. Anatomy of Melancholy What It Is, with All the Kinds, Causes, Symptoms, Prognostics, and Several Cures of It. In Three Partitions. With Their Several Sections, Members, Subsections, Philosophically, Medicinally, Historically Opened and Cut Up Philadelphia, T. Wardle, 1836, First American Edition ed, Full Leather, Condition: Very Good, Volume one only. By Democritus Junior with a satyricall preface conducing to the following discourse. First American, from the thirteenth English Edition, corrrected, to which is now first prefixed an account of the author. Robert Burton (1577-1640) was elected a student of Christ Church College, Oxford, in 1599. Burton wrote this treatise on Melancholy (depression), as a way of avoiding his own melancholy. The treatis has a strong satirical lean to it and can be very humorous in his presentation. Full tan calf, black title and volume panels to spine, gilt lettering. Mild to moderate foxing, text easy to read. Very mild soil and rubbing, tightly bound, no writing. Gilt dentelle to board edges.
